Chelsea Handler has sold the mansion in L.A.’s Bel Air neighborhood that she’s owned since 2010. The New York Post reports that the comedian and talk show host fetched $10.5 million for the house, which boasts six bedrooms, seven bathrooms, and was extensively renovated by Handler after she bought it in 2010.
Measuring 5,572 square feet, the estate is now a bright, open-plan space with plenty of large windows looking out at the surrounding greenery. “We tore the house apart, inside and out, while keeping the main frame. I had to move out a couple of times, and I did a lot of construction—but I just really wanted it to have that indoor-outdoor California vibe: soft, contemporary, and really clean,” Handler told AD in 2019.
One of Handler’s favorite elements of the house was the main bedroom suite where she admitted to spending “most of my time.” It includes a large closet and a spa-like bathroom with an infrared sauna she installed and a tub she says encouraged her to take more baths. “I am not a huge bath person,” says Handler. “I am not British so I don’t have an affinity [for it] the same way others do, but because of this tub I have taken more baths than I probably ever would. It’s nice to be able to sit up in a tub,” she said.
The backyard was also a draw, with its swimming pool, multiple lounge areas, and outdoor kitchen complete with a pizza oven. The New Jersey native has been attempting to offload the home for some time now, first listing it in 2018 and then putting it back on the market in 2020. When asked about it during AD’s tour, the Life Will Be the Death of Me author joked, “I always keep my house on the market. Just in case something great comes up or I find a house that’s great. That’s just an ongoing rotation I have going.”
