Over the past eight years, Mr Ling from south-western China’s Yunnan Province has been creating incredible 3D paintings with layers of resin glue.

While showcasing his work online by uploading a video on the Chinese TikTok-like Douyin, Mr Ling’s pet kitten stole the spotlight instead after the moggie was confused by the hyper-realistic painting.

In the trending footage, Mai Mai can be seen sitting in front of the artwork, seemingly observing it.

He then quickly stood up and started scratching the painted fish before licking the surface as though he was trying to devour his dinner.

Apparently, this is not the first time the greedy little cat wanted to steal a bite from his owner’s artwork.

‘He has always done it,’ Mr Ling, 33, told MailOnline.’Every time after I’ve painted a fish, he would always jump on the table and started licking it or trying to scratch it off the board.’

The video has since amassed nearly one million views after recently being shared across social media by Chinese news outlets.

Amused by Mai Mai’s reaction, one commenter wrote: ‘Adorable little cat. Also, the painting looked way too real!’

Another web user said: ‘Are you sure it wasn’t just a frozen fish?’

Mr Ling said that he was ‘shocked’ by the attention attracted by his artwork and Mai Mai.

‘I was quite shocked, but also really happy that more people could enjoy my work like this,’ the artist said.
