Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admits the pressure is on as Man United face Newcastle

‘The spotlight should be on me because I’m responsible’: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admits the pressure is on as Man United bid to turn around horror start to the season at Newcastle

  • Manchester United have made their worst start to a Premier League season
  • The Red Devils travel to Newcastle today in desperate need of maximum points
  • Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says the pressure and scrutiny should be on him as boss
  • Solskjaer has also dispelled all talk of a rift with star midfielder Bruno Fernandes

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has held his hands up and admitted the pressure is now rightly mounting upon him as Manchester United manager.

United have made a torrid start to the season, winning only a single game due to controversial circumstances against Graham Potter’s Brighton.

In their last outing United were annihilated by Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford, piling the pressure on Solskjaer and once again leading to questions regarding his position as manager.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer must quickly improve the mood at Man United after a disastrous start

Speaking this week in a pre-match press conference ahead of his side facing a trip to the north east to meet Newcastle, Solskjaer took full responsibility and acknowledged his situation.

‘The spotlight should be on me, because I’m the manager and I’m responsible,’ said Solskjaer.

‘Last season was also hard, we played nine games and only won first of the two nine games, which was difficult

‘But if you’re part of Manchester United as a player or staff, you’re used to this and you have to be mentally strong. For me, this period is another chance to prove that.’

The Norwegian also addressed questions regarding talisman Bruno Fernandes, who was reported to have verbally clashed with team-mates following the humiliation against Spurs.

‘We know, any little chance from outside, people want to create division,’ said Solskjaer.

‘Bruno spoke really well about it the other day – we’re united and have to stay together, we can’t listen to everyone outside.

Real Madrid and Barcelona are reportedly set to do battle to sign playmaker Bruno Fernandes

‘Welcome to Manchester United, Bruno, this is what happens. You’re everyone’s favourite target if something goes wrong.’

This week it has emerged that Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona are set to do battle to sign United playmaker Fernandes, according to a sensational new report.

Both LaLiga clubs are said to be keeping a close eye on Fernandes’ progression at Old Trafford just eight months after his £68million move from Sporting Lisbon.

The Sun claim that Fernandes was left irked after being hauled off in the heavy defeat at the hands of Tottenham – and the Portugal international may already find himself taking up a new challenge with his current side gripped in turmoil.
